Marcel Breuer: Design & Architecture

Way before modular furniture became synonymous with a certain flat-packing Swedish retailer, Hungarian-born furniture designer and modernist pioneer Marcel Breuer debuted the tubular steel Wassily chair, inspired by the handlebars on his Adler bicycle. Similar to IKEA’s particleboard, Breuer’s designs utilized humble, coalescent ingredients such as concrete, later moving to wooden furniture and then architecture upon his immigration to the United States. Marcel Breuer: Design & Architecture showcases Breuer’s modernist oeuvre, including the design of Atlanta’s own Atlanta-Fulton County Library building, which was the last he designed before his death in 1980.
