European Design Since 1985: Shaping the New Century

Exploring design heavy hitters from across the pond who have defined the last couple decades in decorative arts, European Design Since 1985: Shaping the New Century takes objectification to a new level. With product design including a lamp fashioned out of retro glass milk bottles from Amsterdam’s Droog Design and a barnyard buster posturing earthy, musky hay atop the sleek glint of industrial steel in Brit John Angelo Benson’s lounge chair, the objects are loosely united in their themes of modernism and postmodernism. The opening includes a lecture by R. Craig Miller, senior curator of design arts and director of design initiatives at Indianapolis Museum of Art, that neatly wraps up the major movements, designers and objects; and Design After Dark, a gussied-up viewing replete with cocktails, a DJ, and a fancy-pants version of musical chairs with a $2,000 Corbusier chair.
