Blue Peony and Impure Thoughts

It’s been two years since conceptual artist Jiha Moon last set up shop at Saltworks Gallery with her solo exhibition No Peach Heaven: MuRung Dowan. Moon’s latest, Blue Peony and Impure Thoughts, warbles the same hypnotic siren song as exhibits past. The brilliantly psychotropic, mercilessly undulating paintings stretch sinuously across traditional Korean hanji paper, tondos and the gallery wall with big, beautiful neon colors that are brash but fastidious in their application. Little is lost in translation: Moon effortlessly transposes modernity over tradition in an unwieldy East-meets-West mishmash.
